Subject : One-time option for eligible CPS employees to switch to Old Pension Scheme (OPS).
Government of Andhra Pradesh has issued orders allowing a one-time option for eligible employees covered under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) to opt for the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), subject to prescribed conditions.
- CPS was introduced from 01-09-2004.
- Government of India later allowed a one-time OPS option for similarly placed Central Government employees.
- Several employee associations and public representatives requested similar benefits in Andhra Pradesh.
- The Government examined the representations and approved the proposal.
- Eligible employees covered under CPS can exercise a one-time option to switch to OPS.
- The recruitment notification or advertisement should have been issued before 01-09-2004.
- The employee should have joined Government service on or after 01-09-2004.
- The benefit applies to employees covered under G.O.Ms.No.653 dated 22-09-2004.
- Recruitment notification must have been published before 01-09-2004.
- Appointment should have been made on or after 01-09-2004.
- Employee should presently be under CPS.
- Option should be exercised within three months from the date of the Government Order or within any extended period notified by Government.
- The option once exercised is final and irrevocable.
- Employees who do not exercise the option will continue under CPS.
This is a one-time benefit only for eligible employees and shall not be treated as a precedent for future claims. Detailed operational guidelines regarding exercise of option and transfer of CPS corpus will be issued separately by the Finance Department and Directorate of Treasuries & Accounts.
